NLACRC Multimedia Libraries and Emergency Preparedness
The NLACRC Multimedia Library has the following brochures available that will help you prepare for an emergency:

“Family Emergency Supplies Kit: What will you need if disaster strikes?” (in English and Spanish) published by the Greater Los Angeles American Red Cross and County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services Public Health

“Preparing for Disaster for People with Disabilities and other Special Needs” published by FEMA and American Red Cross

“Prepare Yourself: Disaster Readiness Tips for People with Disabilities” published by the National Organization on Disability

Here are some useful web site links that can help you to learn more about how you can prepare for emergencies.

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) web site has a “Consumer Corner” section and includes an emergency preparedness workbook. Feeling Safe, Being Safe will help you make a plan that you can use in case of an emergency. The video demonstrates how to complete the workbook and put together a home emergency kit. The printable magnet lets you post your important emergency contact information on your refrigerator for first responders.

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Safety Net web site has online newsletters that focus on specific topics. The Spring 2011 Safety Net newsletter focuses on emergency preparedness for persons with developmental disabilities.

The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services site has information about disaster assistance, the State’s Earthquake Program, hazard mitigation and hazardous materials, information for emergency managers, laws and regulations, meetings and workshops, and plans and publications.
