DDS Directive – Access To Client Information
On May 14, 2025, the Department of Developmental Services issued a directive reinforcing protections for the privacy and rights of individuals receiving services and their families when unauthorized parties make requests to access client records or information.
At NLACRC, we take the privacy of individuals receiving services from our regional center seriously and are committed to protecting it. Regional Centers and service providers are legally required in accordance with federal and state privacy laws, to protect the information of all individuals receiving services.
This means that we are prohibited by law from disclosing any information about the individuals we support and their families to anyone who might call and ask about them, with some exceptions.
Disclosure of confidential information and records by the regional center requires written consent by the individual served or someone with legal authority to provide consent on behalf of the individual served.
Regional Centers and services providers are required to follow this directive at all times and at private facilities or public locations, including while providing services to individuals. They are also required to make their employees aware of the legal requirements and procedures outlined in this directive.
