Call for Ornaments for 88th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the State Capitol
Post Date:09/24/2019 1:50 PM
Create a holiday ornament that will be placed on the Christmas tree at the State Capitol!
For over two decades, individuals with developmental disabilities have sent hundreds of ornaments to Sacramento, and the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) has put out a call for ornaments again this year.
The tree lighting ceremony takes place the first week of December and as in previous years, a child with a developmental disability will participate in the ceremony by placing an ornament on the tree during the evening ceremony with Governor Gavin Newsom and Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
DDS encourages regional center community art programs to participate. They are asking for ornaments that reflect the cultural diversity of California and celebrate holiday traditions from the Golden State and around the world. Some examples of themes include Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Christmas, and Kwanzaa.
All ornaments must be received at DDS by Friday, November 8th. There are specific guidelines and suggestions so please be sure to review them before creating your ornaments.
We ask that community art programs ship their ornaments directly to DDS by November 8th. If you are an individual who would like to contribute an ornament, you can deliver the ornament to the NLACRC office nearest you and we will ship the ornament to DDS. Ornaments must be received no later than October 30th to ensure that we have enough time to ship.
