NLACRC NOTABLE HIGHLIGHTS FROM FISCAL YEAR 2005-2006
FESTIVAL EDUCACIONAL
NLACRC holds its 19th Festival Educacional on June 3, 2006 at Valley Presbyterian Hospital with over 100 people in attendance. The informative program, which is offered free to NLACRC Spanish-speaking clients, includes Efrain Beliz, Ph.D. addressing mental health issues, Bebo Saab and Ada Hamer from Protection and Advocacy, Inc. speaking about alternatives to conservatorships, and Jesus Murillo representing the Department of Health Services talking about the importance of emergency preparedness.

GRASS ROOTS WEEK
Each Spring, NLACRC sends out teams of people to visit legislators at their local community offices and in Sacramento. Known as Grass Roots Week, the teams meet with the legislators to help create awareness about issues that are important to the developmental disability community. In 2006, the teams focused on the availability of affordable housing, a 3% cost of living increase for service providers, and cost containment proposals to the 2006 budget.
